Presence in the world

Denmark

The Dutch Province began a mission in Denmark on the 8th of June 1901: in Roskilde on the Island of Sjælland, - since 1903 until 1991 supported by the Sisters of Wisdom. For nearly 100 years, until 1993, they edified futher five parishes on this island: Ringsted-Slagelse-Kalundborg-Holbaek and Taastrup and built in each parish a church. In 1903 the first missionaries for Iceland was sent out from Roskilde. One Father published through 30 years (1950-1980) a marial magazine and arranged a lot of pilgrimages from Scandinavia to Lourdes.  The last (dutch) missionary in Denmark died in 2000, and so the Company of Mary no longer has a residence there. However there is still a Montfortian presence in Denmark, in the shape of the Montfort-Community (two fathers and two brothers), which, with residence in Slagelse and with links to the German Vice-province, takes care of three of the former Montfortian parishes, and, since 1995, a group of Montfortian Associates ("Mary, Queen of all Hearts").
